5. Include Wedding Insurance With Your Wedding Plans

Most weddings cost far more than you would spend on a decent saloon car. It's unthinkable that you would drive your brand new car without insurance cover, yet so many couples take a bigger financial risk by not insuring their wedding costs against the risk of total loss. By comparison to cars, house content, possessions, valuables, etc., wedding insurance costs very little for comprehensive cover. The relatively small premium for wedding insurance will give you peace of mind as you plan for your wedding.

The range of cover available is wide, however it is unlikely that you would insure against a cloudy day or rain showers - but you would cover against cancellation due to storms or floods, etc. Other disasters would be included in your cover, earthquakes, landslides, fire, etc, and not just for the whole wedding, but if a part of it became affected by events beyond your control. If your reception venue were to suddenly close down, the wedding venue was hit by some unpredicted event that caused it's closure, the wedding car supplier went out of business, the caterer cancelled at the last minute, the bride or groom met with an unfortunate accident that prevented the wedding taking place, etc. A relatively simple and economical insurance cover would compensate for these unforeseen circumstances.

Wedding insurance doesn't normally figure very highly on most couples list when they begin planning their wedding day - and will be an after-thought in many cases. Don't dismiss the idea of wedding insurance as a cost saving, you will regret not making the quite modest expenditure in the event that anything disrupts your plans or your wedding day. Buy wedding insurance early in your planning stages for the wedding, to get the longest period of cover from the wedding insurance policy. Certainly you should have insurance cover in place by the time you start to book suppliers and make deposit payments, but it's never too late to add into your plans right up to the day of your wedding.

Most wedding insurance policies are similar, both in price and in the level of cover that they offer, but it's still worth shopping around to find the cover that best suits you. The internet and insurance brokers are a great source of information for the levels of cover offered by different companies. A good policy will include cancellation (but unlikely that this would include a change of mind!), the wedding rings and other wedding jewellery, wedding dress, the Groom, Best man and bridesmaid's outfits (if you are hiring formal attire, then check the insurance requirements), venue(s), caterer, transportation, florist, personal accident for the Bride and Groom if this affects your wedding plans, personal liability, wedding cake damage, photographer (including destruction of the wedding photographs), wedding gifts (ensure that cash and vouchers are included).

The insurance cover for your honeymoon should be arranged separately from the wedding insurance. Your honeymoon would normally be covered by travel insurance, generally arranged at the same time as making your travel arrangements. However, you may wish to consider that the travel insurance would not normally cover cancellation as a result of your wedding plans having been disrupted, so you may want to include cover for this with your wedding insurance policy or take out separate cover for this specific risk.

The wedding day and planning your wedding is a happy and exciting time in your life. No one wants to think about things that may go wrong - and generally they don't! Everyone hopes that your wedding day is wonderful and runs without anything untoward happening. Arrange your insurance early and hope that you never need to refer to it again - but have the reassurance that you have put your safety net in place in the unlikely event that you should need it. Congratulations - relax and enjoy the most beautiful day of your lives.
